The mandated efficiency on HVAC equipment will be 14 SEER beginning January 1, 2015. This rule immediately affects manufacturers . Distributors and contractors will have a grace period in which to deplete existing 13 SEER stock. The last efficiency increase was in 2006 when the minimum went from 10 to 13 SEER. If you are in the market for a new HVAC system, verify the efficiency of the equipment to be installed before making a final decision. The easiest way to do this is with an AHRI number. AHRI numbers give an exact rating for the combination of equipment being installed. We are happy to provide AHRI numbers for all of our equipment installations. Do not assume a system being installed meets the minimum requirement of 14 SEER after January 1, 2015. Many contractors will stock up on 13 SEER equipment to have a perceived price advantage. 13 SEER units could be in the market place for years to come.
